The Association of Wineries and Winegrowers SUBSIERRA has collected this Friday the Environmental Excellence Award 2026, granted within the framework of the XVII Ecovino Awards, one of the reference events for organic wines.
The award, sponsored by Excell Ibérica Laboratories, recognizes the commitment from SUBSIERRA with the sustainability, he care of the territory and the organic viticulture. The distinction highlights the joint work of an association created to defend a way of making wine deeply linked to the origin, the landscape and the people who grow it.
The award has been collected by Loli Casado, secretary of SUBSIERRA, during the delivery ceremony of the XVII Ecovino Awards, which is held at the University of La Rioja.
SUBSIERRA brings together family wineries located in the shelter of the Sierra de Toloño-Cantabria and the left bank of the Ebro, in a territory that extends from Rioja Alavesa to Rioja Alta. Its members share the same vision: protect the vineyard, preserve the landscape, promote organic viticulture and defend a sustainable development model for the people and families who live in this territory.
During the presentation of the award, Antonio Palacios, director of Excell Ibérica, highlighted the special nature of this recognition, intended to highlight projects that, like SUBSIERRA, integrate environmental excellence in a way of working linked to the territory, the vineyard and sustainability.
For its part, the association highlights that "this award represents a very important recognition for SUBSIERRA because it confirms that taking care of the territory is not a speech, but a way of working every day. Our commitment is born in the vineyard, in the relationship with our winegrowers and in the responsibility of preserving this landscape for future generations."
The association works around values such as the conservation of old vineyards, the protection of biodiversity, manual harvesting, respect for the landscape and the defense of deep-rooted viticulture. A model that understands wine not only as a product, but as an expression of a territory and a shared wine culture.
In its seventeenth edition, the Ecovino Awards have brought together hundreds of organic references from different wine-growing regions, consolidating its role as a showcase of quality and sustainability in the wine sector.
